Learn to be a Snorkel Instructor

SNORKEL INSTRUCTOR COURSE
NAUI WORLDWIDE

Learn to be a Skindiving instructor by the master Ted Brambleby.
Longest serving NAUI Instructor in Australia.
Prices on application and dependant on group size.

The Program
  • 4 days with possible evening sessions
  • Practical and theory sessions
  • Leadership card Registration and certificate (not insurance)
  • Use of Equipment (Mask Fins Snorkels Wetsuits, Weight belts)
  • Candidates must hold current first aid and oxygen resuscitation Certification or be prepared to obtain the certificates before Skin Diving Instructor registration.

Snorkel skills are skills for a life long
pursuit of learning about the ocean
The Competencies

Swimming skills

  • Swim underwater 20m on one breath, no dive or push off
  • Swim 400m ,any stroke in 10 minutes or less
  • Surface survival swim for 20 minutes
  • Recover a 4.5kg object from at least 2.5 metres of water
  • Transport another person of similar size 50 metres

Skin diving skills with mask fins and snorkel

  • Swim 820 metres nonstop within 18 minutes
  • Remove and replace mask ,fins and snorkel at the surface
  • Swim underwater 45 metres taking no more than 3 breaths during the swim
  • Recover several small objects during one dive to at least 2.5 metres
  • Transport another person of similar size 100 metres
  • Perform a skin ditch and recovery

Skills to be performed with ease and proper techniques

  • Water entries and exits, Surface dives, Propulsion techniques, Snorkel clearing, Buoyancy control with vest, Skin diver rescue, Teach, at least, 3 of these skills

Theory

  • Specific aspects of Pressure, Temperature, Buoyancy, Vision, Gases, Respiration, Shallow water black out, Over exertion, Over exposure

Diving equipment

  • The purpose, use, types, care and maintenance of snorkelling equipment
  • Diving Safety
  • Rescue and first aid as applied to skin diving
  • Dive planning
  • Safety rules
  • Emergency procedures associated with
  • Panic syndrome, Problem recognition, Near drowning, Cardiopulmonary resuscitation, shock, wounds, assists, tows and carries

Diving environment

  • The physiological and biological aspects of the local environment
  • The fundamentals of conservation and preservation of aquatic resources

Course operation procedures

  • How to run a skin diving course
  • Finances, Promotion, Course content, Legal aspects, Insurance, NAUI and the organisation

Teaching techniques

  • Teaching theory, methods, techniques, establishing objectives, evaluations, training aids, lesson plans
  • Candidate to present
  • 2 classroom
  • 2 in water

To include a short written outline.
To include a game, exercise, or drill to be presented during the in water work.

Complete exam
